When teeth are not cleaned, conditions for bacterial growth are created in the mouth leading not only to a variety of oral diseases, but also to illnesses in other vital organs (e.g., stomach, heart). Daily oral care is the first step for healthy teeth and gums. Constant dental plaque and bacteria contained therein are the main causes of dental decay, periodontal disease and bad breath. It is crucial to properly select and use oral care products in order to prevent these diseases. However, diligent teeth cleaning is not always successful, especially in hard to reach areas (between teeth, between prostheses). Accumulations of food residue on the teeth’s surface become sticky and turn into a plaque layer that eventually hardens. This results in dental tartar, which cannot be removed with normal daily hygiene methods; therefore, the assistance of dental hygienist is required.
We recommend performing professional oral hygiene 1-4 times per year, but it depends on the patient’s oral hygiene habits and the intensity of tartar and plaque accumulation.
